Polish ads

I had to jump on the bus today to do a drop of. I work and live out in West London, and there is a big community here of Australians and Polish. I noticed an advert on one of the bus stops that we passed that made me double take. It was an advert from Nat West Bank. In polish. Yep the whole advert was in polish. Now I know I may be sounding like a bit of a tyrant here, but why the hell should banks have to advertise in our capital city in another language? If someone is over here working then fair enough. Capitalism and commerce and all that. I think the migration of work forces can be a good thing for a country. In fact the reason I love London is the various different cultures all spread across our great city. My opinion is that people should be happy and should be encouraged to uphold their cultures and beliefs, but of course still make the effort to integrate into British society. After all our history has been one continuous flow of other cultures, from Vikings, to the Normans, to Romans, through to the West Indian, Bangladeshi, and Greek communities we have had this century to name a few. We have kept transforming and developing as a country because of this flow. But there is a certain point where I think "fuck this". And this is the point where people come here and refuse to learn the language. I know there is an argument that English people abroad are awful because we expect everyone to speak our language. I get embarrassed when I am somewhere on holiday and everyone can speak perfect English and I barely know a handful of words in their language. But jeez, I should think that you should at least expect people living and working here to be able to speak our language. Maybe I am over reacting but it really has pissed me of.
